In an effort to educate and promote, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas offers a special school program appropriately titled “Blue Flame University.” The program is offered to all fourth grade classes in our service area. Cliff Swoape is the “professor” of Blue Flame University, with Henry Roberts filling in on occasion. The class sessions last for 45 minutes to an hour and include science, math, history, and social studies skills.
The classes also learn about jobs such as geologists, meter readers, engineers, and service technicians. Many groups have gone through the program with very positive feedback. The students especially like the grand-finale safety portion of the program when the explosion chamber is demonstrated. The program is being offered each month to various counties throughout the District until all schools in our 21 county region are covered.
